Traditional Chinese Medicine Nutrition is a holistic and ancient approach to nutritional therapy and is suitable for a wide range of complaints such as IBS, depression and menopause. It can also help if you are struggling with weight loss and low energy or would simply like to feel better and fitter. Changes to the way you eat really can have dramatic results.

Bespoke Nutritional advice

All dietary suggestions will be tailored to your Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis and individual circumstances. Not everyone can make huge changes straight away due to work or family commitments. And there may be certain foods you don’t like or you just can’t stomach eating in the morning.  Whatever your lifestyle and food preferences, there will be changes you can make to your diet to improve your health.

My approach is very much about working with you to find out what changes or alterations will work best for you. A happy patient also means a happy digestive system, so it is counter productive to get you to follow a diet you can’t stick to. My aim is to educate you in a way that you look at food differently and feed your body the right way  for you so you continue to follow these changes throughout your life.

 How it works?

The principles of Chinese Medicine has always been to treat illness first with diet, resorting to other methods only if this fails, like Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs.

TCM Nutrition looks at food and the way we eat food very differently to the way we have been educated in the west. Chinese Nutritional Therapy uses thousands of years of knowledge on the healing effects of foods to holistically treat internal diseases.

Instead of looking at the composition of foods such as vitamins, minerals, fibre, fats and so on the Chinese dietary considers the energy of a food and what it does to you when you eat it.

Each food has an energetic property. Chilli pepper has a hot energy. This means that chilli's are not recommended for diseases or problems where heat is a contributing factor e.g. menopause. As well as the energetic ‘temperature’ of a food, other factors are taken into consideration, such as which organs or parts of the body the food effects, and whether it is a drying or moistening food.

The Chinese Medicine diet uses this detailed understanding of the effects of food on the body, allowing me to make recommendations that will help you to adjust your diet to allow healing to occur. These modifications are dependent on the strength of disease/problem and how motivated you as the patient is to making changes to your diet and health. There is no such thing as good and bad foods in Chinese Medicine, all foods have a healing potential, it’s just a case of understanding this, and making sure you get the right balance.
